Bonham Hot Well

Bonham hot well 1

The Bonham Hot Well lies in a very remote part of Western Nevada on the site of an abandoned ranch. (See more photos of this cool site on our Bonham Ranch page).
Several artesian wells dot the property, all putting out an impressive volume of water. Only one is hot however.  The hot well is about 97 degrees. Windbreaks and a bench have been added by visitors. There is an abundance of thermophillic algae in the pool (EW!) and the water has a strong sulfurous smell.

Though picturesque, this is a pretty stinky spring. Between the sulfur, the algae, and the surrounding marshy cattle fields, we were able to literally locate this spring with our noses! It’s soakable, but I’d have to be out exploring for several days before I’d be tempted to hop in this one!  (Sorry, I just have this “thing” about stinky algae mats!)
The combined volume of the hot and cold wells run to a very deep man-made pond full of small algae eating fish.  There is a lot of cool stuff to explore around the ranch, however, even if you don’t want to take a soak here
