California

From North to South, California contains a staggering amount of mining history. As the scene for the original 1849 Rush, much of the Western United States’ mining technology and techniques were developed here.

Unlike Nevada, most of California is private property, so many sites require permission to visit, or at least the tacit permission implied by a lack of “no tresspassing” signs. Still, there are 100’s of sites on public land.

As always, respect the land, pack out your trash, and try to pick up some other slob’s trash if you can.
